“Saleem Malik used to cycle around Inman Park, so it only took looking at a few homes before he and his wife, Lisa, purchased a century-old American Foursquare in the neighborhood.“This house came on the market and it felt like home when we saw it,” Lisa said. “I could picture myself living there.The Maliks, who moved from Atlanta’s westside, recently wrapped up a year of renovations on the Atlanta home, which is on the Inman Park Tour of Homes from April 26-28. “We love the high ceilings in the house. This is something that was important to us in our renovation,” Lisa said. The home’s early 1900s architecture is accentuated by bold patterns and colors in their walls, fabrics and even lighting.

Residents: Saleem and Lisa Malik and their dog, Lewis. Saleem is an obstetrician/gynecologist and Lisa is a speech-language pathologist. They have three children, Campbell, 26, Jason, 23, and Hobie, 21.

Renovations: On the back of the home, they expanded the master suite, and in the bathroom makeover, they added a Duravit soaking tub from Guy Gunter Home, ceramic floor tiles from Riad Tile, a tub faucet from Delta Faucet and sink fixtures by Kohler, through Cowan Supply. They renovated the kitchen with a Swiss cross-patterned black and white cement tile backsplash from Cle Tile, Thermador appliances from Best Buy and a Ruvati sink. The kitchen and bathroom cabinets are by William Orr Fine Custom Cabinets. They added a bathroom to the front of the home.

Interior design style: Comfortable and casual, as described by the homeowners

Favorite interior design elements: Yellow painted floor tiles by Mirth Studio and LED bulbs from LIFX that can change colors and dim with an app. The lights are in several fixtures and the two glass-door kitchen cabinets. “So our house is always glowing different colors,” Lisa said.

Favorite outdoor features: The screened porch off the kitchen and the front porch.

Decor tip: When it comes to color, be bold, Lisa said. On the exterior, they used Sherwin-Williams’ Rookwood Shutter Green, which looks almost black. “It was scary committing to such a saturated color, but I am so glad we did,” Lisa said.
